Jane and Emma (2018) – Feature Film

Jane Manning didn’t want to go back to Nauvoo, Illinois. Constantly searching for a place to belong, she never felt quite at home in the City Beautiful. But God had other plans for her. One fateful summer night in 1844, she returns to Nauvoo to discover that the Mormon leader, Joseph Smith has been murdered. His widow Emma, Jane’s former employer, fears that a mob will come in the night and steal his body. Jane is concerned about Emma’s fragile emotional state and decides to stay and help keep watch. Over the course of the night, these two very different women—one black and one white—struggle with questions of faith and acceptance, ultimately laying the foundation for a lifelong friendship.
